Late Winter Update

So here are some things we've been up to lately.... As we wait for spring to finally come our way.
Little G found my button box. Its always hours of fun when its out, the boys like to drag magnets through it and pick up all the metal buttons, the girls like to find pretty colors. She spent a few days sewing buttons on socks and stuffed animals. Little Buddy's bear previously known as Bub the Bear is now known as Buttons the Bear.

After a year and a half with my wood cook stove I finally made
my first successful loaf that wasn't burned.
I had to take a picture.
I love this girl's style

Little Buddy has been wanting to cut and glue everything lately. I am constantly picking up little bits of paper and the scissors are all missing, all the time.

We tapped our Maples for the first time in 6 or more years. We loved it, it really became a family event too. March usually drags on as we wait for spring but this year it passed by rather quickly as we got out daily to trudge in the snow, breath the cool air, collecting gallons and gallons of sap.
Its truly amazing to see the sap flowing like a springs coming from the trees.
The trees of the Lord are full of sap. Psalm 104:16

All in all we made about 3 gallons of syrup! I am blessed. We could actually still be collecting with the weather being so cold every night but we are sapped out!

Our little hen, Omelet, got herself a little clutch of eggs and has been diligently brooding. Unfortunately, some weren't fertile so they were removed, one got crushed, one must have been tucked under a wing and accidentally dropped in the snow, and yesterday a nasty old crow came by and attacked her and her nest. She only has one sad little egg left. I hope it hatches for her.

We also had eggs incubating inside during the month of March so between turning eggs 3 times a day and collecting sap we were very busy indeed. A week ago we had 21 fluffy little chicks hatch for us.
We sold one and a few died, we now have 17.

Getting to name them is the best part;  Chipidee, Motor, Rocket, Esmerelda, Dandelion, Basil, Rusty, Fluff, Puff and Fuff, Oscar, Princess, Mint, Brownie, Yellow, Stripe and Egor.

Egg coloring for Easter, one of the favorite holiday events of the year.
Now I know despite the cold weather --Spring is on its way our pussy willow tree is blooming!

  1. Loved seeing and reading this - so much learning and excitement - glad the chicks made it, hope the one little egg hatches. Juts think how rich these kids childhood memories will be- this is all what you need to remember when times get tough and you might second guess yourself. You are an awesome Mommy (and Daddy) and these kids are so BLESSED to be raised by you two. Love you both!!

Thank you for coming and reading, I look forward to hearing from you.
